In reality <strong>shear strains<\/strong> cause the section to <strong>warp<\/strong>. The effect in the <strong>flanges<\/strong> is to modify the bending <strong>stresses<\/strong> obtained by the simple beam theory, producing higher stresses near the junction of a <strong>web<\/strong> and lower stresses at points remote from it.
