After the <strong>adhesion<\/strong> between the grout and the connector is lost, the <strong>ribs<\/strong> in the connector begin to <strong>bear<\/strong> on the grout.<strong> Slip<\/strong> of the connector occurs by progressive <strong>crushing<\/strong> of the grout in front of the ribs and <strong>splitting cracks<\/strong> appear in the grout surrounding the connector. Due to the <strong>confinement<\/strong> provided by the <strong>duct<\/strong> (both <strong>galvanized steel<\/strong> and <strong>plastic<\/strong>), these cracks had essentially no impact on the <strong>stiffness<\/strong> of the connectors. Increasing the applied <strong>tensile load<\/strong> distributes the bond stresses deeper along the connector, which engages additional ribs.
