The precast concrete floor or roof is analysed by considering the slab as a deep horizontal beam, analogous to a plate girder or beam containing chord elements. The stabilising cores, shear walls, frames or other bracing components act as supports for this analogous deep beam and the lateral loads are transmitted as reactions.
