If the principal tensile stress in the web reaches the tensile strength of concrete in an area containing no flexural cracks, an inclined crack may appear and shear tension failure may occur suddenly. The crack usually appears at the critical section where the favourable influence of support reaction is no more significant and where the prestressing force is not yet fully developed.
