For structures that possess a low frequency of between approximately 3 to 10 Hz, harmonic components of the walking force can coincide with the floor frequency causing resonant excitation; in this case, the level of damping is important as it defines the amount that the response will be magnified (the lower the damping ratio, the higher the response).
