When any dimension of web opening exceeds 10% of the minimum dimensions of the panel in which it is placed, the shear capacity of the panel is limited to its shear buckling resistance. Any tension field capacity of a perforated web is thus conservatively ignored to avoid design complexity. Also, the panels immediately adjacent to that containing the large openings are designed as end panels.
