Tension stiffening in a flexural member is the additional stiffness provided by the tensile stress in the concrete between primary flexural cracks. The tensile force in the concrete is transferred to the reinforcing steel until breakdown of bond between the concrete and steel occurs. As more primary cracks form, the region of concrete tensile stress diminishes.
